Illy - Dashed lines

HI Guys, I was wondering if anyone knew a way to convert a dashed line in adobe illustrator to outlines so I can cut the darn thing. I have tried expanding, outline stroke..everything i can think of...

I tried it in illy cs3 with these steps

1. created dashed stroke
2. outline stroke
3. release compound path

You can also do it in expand transparency.

going from memory, I don't think any of those solutions worked in version 9, so hopefully the op is running CS or better

I guess I should have said waht version I have. haha I have CS...the only way I could figure out how to complete this task was to go to "flatten transparency". Thanks for the input guys!
