Illy glitch?

Hey guys.
I know my illy inside and out, but having an odd glitch on my artists Mac. Illy 5.

When selecting multiple paths to combine into a compound shape with the pathfinder, it's making a group instead of a compound shape. The same file on my PC combines perfectly fine into a single compound path. Tried multiple ways on the Mac with no luck. Always makes a group of paths and not a single compound path.

Do the pathfinder merge 1 shape at a time. That should fix it.

Are you using the "pathfinder" from the "effect" menu or are you using the "pathfinder" window in the "window" menu?

I just tried both... the one from the "effect" menu doesn't seem to do much whereas the "add" button int the "pathfinder" window works ok.

on CS5, I have to hit the "expand" after making a compond shap.

Figured it out... It works just like my PC. You can grab multiple objects but you have to hold alt when clicking the pathfinder to make a compound from multiple objects. It then gives you the option to expand.
