Illy question

The box, although not visible, still shows up beyond the boundary of my banner. How do I eliminate that? Or is that not possible in Illy?

pretty sure that's just illustrator. it's a pain too, because it always aligns the whole object and not just the masked part. flexi gets it, wish adobe did

I know this doesn't answer your question at all, but why don't you just type that stuff out?

all well and good for the "i'm lovin' it" portion, but the arches are part of the problem also.

I've written to MCD to ask for the artwork in something better than a png file, and didn't hear from them. Whats the F is up with these people, that they make you jump thru hoops for their F'n logo's. The owner of this particular store originally sent me a 52kb jpg, because he couldn't open the pdf file he had. He said I would have to use this png. I told him to forward me the pdf (even tho HE couldn't open it). He coudn't understand why I would be able to open it when he couldn't.

I didn't want to agrue with him. If his logo looks like shit, so be it.

SOME DAYS I HATE PEOPLE. (except for you guys & gals):U Rock:

It appears there is extra unneeded junk there. Try using the direct selection tool (keyboard "a" shortcut) to select that shape and delete. It could be an unnecessary clipping mask. I have also seen this from a text box with extra returns/spaces. It may help to look in outline mode to see what is going on and if you can eliminate that box

If it is a text box, you can convert to outlines/paths first

+1 for the Vector Dr.

The first thing I usually do upon opening a file in Illustrator is view it in outline mode. I find a lot of junk (clipping mask, stray points, and unused space in text boxes to name a few) that can be trashed and have no ill effect on the final product.

Are you sure there was only one mask on it?
I've run into this problem and have found that there was more than one mask.
If it's a PNG and not the PDF you are working with why not bring it into PS crop it down export it to Illy and be done with it.

Best of luck

Make a rectangle the same size as your banner, make sure it is on top of everything else on the artboard and centered horizontally and vertically, press CTRL+A to select all then press CTRL+7 to create a clipping mask around the entire deal, that should resolve the issue entirely.

Can't you just crop out the portions of the .png files you need in photoshop and then bring the broken bits back into illy to layout individually?

That works. I could also mask in flexi & export as a bitmap... but dosen't answer my question.
What I had done was created the mask in flexi (which only shows the masked portion) then I exported as an ai. into Illy for another application. When in Illy the outside borders re-appear as shown in my attachment. The picture is still masked but.....

I'm guess you can't "crop", or separate the mask in Illy?

Even though the masked item boundaries are still showing up when selected doesn't mean they will print. Why are you concerned about this?

This seems to be ridiculously simple layout. 1 png file used twice with two different masks. There's only four object on the page. I know what you're asking, but I don't understand why it's an issue.
