...this is a pretty good deal if anyone is in the market for a laptop.

Intel i7
8GB DDR3
750GB HDD (I'll be replacing with a SSD)
Windows 8 (Need to see if I like it. If not, back to Windows 7)
Illuminated Keyboard

I have purchased and returned several refurb Toshiba units (Satellites), over a year ago now, due to overheating and/or mainboard failures.

I prefer the Lenovo laptops as I (knock on wood) have had very little to no problems with the LT's we use in our office, service techs and home use.

Maybe I just have bad luck with Toshiba. Mac refurbished units have proven well worth it for me in the past.

You may have the exact opposite story against Lenovo :)

Gotchya...thank you for sharing. We'll see how it goes. I have a couple of other laptops (HP & Toshiba) that still function perfectly and I'll back my important info up to multiple sources in case anything does happen to the refurb'd Toshiba.

I actually prefer the Qosmios to the Satellites and I think they handle things better, however, I must say, I don't get refurbished. You take a chance no matter what you get.

My mom and sister use Lenovo laptops (mom for Ps, sis for Ai) and they love theirs. Maybe when the Toshiba goes, that might be the route I take.

Talk about ones that are getting harder to work on and fix, especially when talking about the laptops. Just about all work will almost always necessitate sending off to Apple to fix. Alicia has an Air that she just loves using. Her's was one of the old ones were things weren't all soldered together. Now that isn't the case, even with the Pro line of laptops as well, if I recall correctly.

Of course, I do have to add that her's (bought brand new) lasted less then 2 yrs, where my crappy Windows machine is going on 4 yrs of heavy use. Just always feel the need to add that in there.

I think refurbed units are just fine depending on why it is considered refurbed. Refurbed doesn't necessarily mean that something was broke and fixed. It can also mean that a company bought a ton of computers due to a having a contract with the manufacturer and ended up not needing as many and sent the remainder back for a credit. The manufacturer will then resell those pcs to other computer companies with a refurbed title even though they have technically never been used. Most refurbed units from Dell, but aren't sold at Dell, come with a standard one year warranty just like the new ones. You can find excellent deals on refurbed 8500 XPS systems on eBay.

With that being said, I would never buy a Toshiba laptop, new or used.
