Image to Vector?

I currently use Autocad to re-trace images and other artwork to become vectors, but when I go to cut them, it acts like the lines are connected and really botches up the vinyl.

Is there a way to load the image into illustrator and trace it?

look at your image in wireframe mode to see if any lines overlap. Another possibility is you have duplicate shapes on top of one another that your plotter is cutting twice. You are not specific on what you mean by botched

Livetrace is not in AI10, but there is a trace function in AI10. Cannot remember the name for it

Autocad blows for graphic reproduction... if you can afford Auto-Cad you can afford to upgrade your Illy.

Inkscape is open source for Illustrator like editing. I assume it can be done in there, you may just have to hunt for it.
