Industrial Carpet Graphics? Looking for direction

Hey guys!

Got a unique request today and really curious if this is even possible, and if anyone here has done this before. I don't need any snoody comments, just really interested in digging around because if we can make it work, I think it'd be fun!

Customer has a store front with short, industrial carpet. The carpet is not brand new.

Customer would like to have a tire tread pattern printed to vinyl (or something??), then applied to the carpet.

Customer understands these will get walked on and eventually start to look ratty -- and wants to order extras just so once they start to turn bad, they can simply pull them up and put new ones down.

Has anyone done industrial carpet graphics before? I feel like I remember seeing a material specifically for carpet graphics a while back but don't remember what it was - would you recommend a floor laminate with it?

Thanks in advance! I want to see if we can make this project work since it's different than the normal.

MacTac HTC is what I have used for carpet graphics for tradeshows in the past, but they've never been left down for that long.
I believe MacTac has an appropriate laminate for the material also.

I would almost be inclined to make a paint mask/stencil in the tread patterns and spray the carpet with paint.

We have done carpet graphics for a casino several times. Last time about 3' wide x 250'. Done in about 10' to 15' sections. They were down for about 2 months. A lot of traffic. Basically a roadway leading people from the entrance to 6 special attractions.
Used Lexjets carpet ad with their 5 mil velvet polycarbonate floor lam. A matched system.
Held up very well except for two things. One, small bottom high heels tended to leave a dimple and two, senior citizens with tennis balls on their walkers tended to lift the leading edge of the graphics where the balls hit. Seniors tend not to lift the walkers, just push them.
I would think it would hold up well for you. Nice thing is they sell a set of vinyl and lam 54" x 20 feet for $100 if you don't need a lot.
Round the corners also.

Awesome information so far! Where are you finding the lexjet and kits?

Has anyone tried panoRama Wall & walk?

We use 3M IJ40i at a casino all the time, duration is about 1.5 months for each set. I still hate doing the removal of them because they stuck pretty well.
Mind you that's a 24hrs operation, traffic is high.

Just out of curiosity - you folks using IJ40C on carpet - how well does it remove? What have you found works well for removal? Do you typically need to follow up with chemical adhesive removers? I've held off doing carpet graphics mainly because I don't know how they would come up in a few months. I'm curious to hear some real-world experience on how the stuff comes back up.

I am also wondering about removal. We have done some very short term graphics and the adhesive left behind a residue. My research on film for carpets has not found anything that says "will not leave residue". Does it really make any difference which film is used?
