Ink charge problem on valuejet

Yesterday when i knocked our 1604 on and it came up that it needed a Ink Charge.
The machine hadn't been used all of last week because I was off sick.
Once this was done it said that 2off the inks K and Y were empty.
I have changed these 2 cartridges and the machine is away printing again.
These 2 cartridges although reading empty are still over half full.
Is there a way of using these cartridges even though they are coming up empty?

Yes, get ahold of your dealer and explain the situation.
They should send you replacement smart cards - they wont read correct amounts, because they will assume the carts are full, but it will allow you to empty them out.

What happens when they do empty? Will the printer stop or just keep on going without ink?
Will it cause any damage to run the lines dry?

There is a failsafe tab on the cart that come out and make a sensor when the cart is actually empty, the printer will stop.
