Ink & longevity?

in the process of changing rips to Caldera and and since there is more control over the volume of ink being applied with each print.

Does the amount of ink applied have a factor in how long a print will last outdoors?
more ink means longer life?

ink in use is OEM Roland Eco-Sol

The amount of ink on the media will play a role in the lightfastness of the ink, but only to a point. Oversaturating the media with too much ink will cause premature failure too.

What's the advantage with Caldera? We run Versaworks here and we can calibrate the ink limits in each media profile as well as see an estimate of ink usage on each job.

I would have thought that theoretically, if two different RIPs are both profiled properly for the media you're using, they should both be laying down just enough ink to get the colour right, so ink usage would be the same. Maybe I'm oversimplifying though.

we are also running caldera and the reason we switched is that fact that caldera is able to run different machines and from different computers

it is also able to create ICC profiles easier than with VW
