Ink Remaining Indicator on Roland RF640

I’m a newbee here. We own and operate a Roland RF 640.

Versa works and indicator on Printing shows half of the cartridges still full but Print results shows missing colors and drop outs. Done cleaning (normal, medium,full,light choke and manual cleaning but results still the same. Why is this…?

Cartidge ink status.

Yellow 1 still full , Yellow 2 Empty

Cyan 3 Empty Cyan 4 still full

Black 5 Almost Empty, Black 6 Still full

Magenta 7 Still Full, Magenta 8 empty

(Picture attached showing ink remaining in Print and by Printer Status on Versa works…

The print out we get shows poor quality or no colors…

Versaworks prompts that there is insufficient Yellow and magenta Inks ….?

Is it possible that the despite indicators show other 4 cartridges to be full of ink…. the ink tank in the printer in empty of the colors?

Can anyone help with some advice or tips… before we change the ink cartridges..?

not familiar with Roland but does it pull from both tanks at the same time? ie: it's not setup as a rollover system where it pulls from one tank when it other is empty. If you replace the empty tanks, you'll probably find out quickly if that's the issue.

The ink system on these printers only guesses at the quantity available. They can be close but are rarely spot on. Take the cartridges out and rock them back and forth. You will be able to feel if they are empty or not. The machine does have hard stop if the cartridge is empty which is a sensor that the cartridge physically flags but sometimes that doesn't work properly especially with 3rd party inks. If a cartridge emptied without flagging, that would cause drop out for sure.

That being said, most of the time drop out is from bad maintenance parts that have not been changed for too long or are dirty.
