Ink Saturation way too much !

Same profile (Mutoh DS Gloss Vinyl) I have always used
Same media (3651) I have always used
Same RIP (Onyx) I have always used

Suddenly the printer is laying down so much black (other colors look normal) that the ink is pooling.

Heaters seem OK.

Any ideas what can make the printer start pumping out too much of a certain color?? I was thinking dampers, but that is just a guess.

Thx!

what quality-level to you use? (perhaps these settings are different, because I use Flexi for a rip though.. )

I have found that when I mix bitmaps/raster files, with vector components, I'll often get very thick black ink on the vector parts (Text, shapes, etc) - especially if I use quality 1 or 2 (Q-3 is usually not toooo bad)

edit: also, you might try downloading a profile from Oracal for the the 3651

I have been using this profile without any problem for two years. I can't see that anything has changed.

I have 12' of vinyl prints that are scrap now, I put them on the pickup roller and the gooey black stuck to the back of the print being rolled on top of it.

The black is 40-30-20-100... same as I always use.

That's weird that it did that. I only that that problem if I'm running something fast and I'm only doing 4 pass or something, but still...it's not that bad. I'm anxious to see if anyone has an answer.

I dunno 'bout the ink puddling, but I'd also be concerned that your printer is printing in 'Upside Down' mode.

The storm last night caused us a bunch of network issues, so I have been unable to check in today.

I cant view the large pic that you posted.

Isolate the RIP by bypassing it:
http://www.mutoh.com/kb/entry/68/

This should tell you if it is RIP related or printer.

Check your dampers, they should be approx 1/2 full.
