Is It Hard On A Laminator To Sit Unused?

Hey guys, I found a Seal 62 ProS that I'm interested in purchasing. I spoke with the man who owns it and he said he hasn't ran it in 4-5 years. It runs on 220 so he has no way of showing me that it runs either. I don't imagine anything going wrong, but I have no experience with a laminator. Also, he said he left the rollers apart so there are no flat spots, but could the rollers harden up or anything after no use in years? Again, I'm not really sure what to expect. Any tips would be much appreciated. This is a 8 hr one way trip for me to go look at it, and its not exactly pocket change so I want to make sure that I'm going after something worthwhile. I've searched for quite a while but there just aren't a lot of laminators available near me.

What if you get it home and it doesn't work? Unless the price is low enough that you can eat it if it doesn't work i would not buy it without testing it.

Like Signchief said, test drive it. Have the guy show you how it works. I would need to have a test drive before I bought it. Rollers will last for years unless it has extreme temperature change going on.

I like the casino idea.

Anyway, if this is a single phase unit, all the guy hasta do is run a 220 line out of the main in his house, garage, wherever it is and put a 220 outlet on it. All mains have the capacity to run 220..... at least for a demonstration.

A lot can go wrong. Depending on humidity...rubber can dry rot without use...contacts can corrode...motors can rust and seize up... Probably better that anything gets at least a little movement rather than no movement. Many times sitting for extended periods is worse than use

If it's been in a controlled environment it should be fine. However I do agree that you should see it run before you make the trek.

Has it been sitting with the rollers pinched against each other? If they have the likely have a flat spot and will need to be replaced.

In terms of the motor and drive assembly, open it up and look for corrosion or black spots around the electrical contacts. Trace the wiring as far as you can.

If the rollers look smooth, pliable and undamaged and the insides look clean I think there's a good shot it will work without a ridiculous amount of work.
