Is It OK To Freeze New Full Rolls Of Vinyl?

I ordered 2 rolls of cast Oracal 3751 air and 2 rolls of 290 lam. I find out at 5:30 pm tonight that Purolator left them outside our garage door this morning. It is a brutally cold -20`C so they are as frozen as they could be.

Purolator says if there is no signature required, that is OK, and I should complain to the supplier.

Are my rolls compromised? I bought them at a sale price as an inventory investment so I may not use them for awhile...

I don't know for sure, but I would think it's fine. I'm sure most vinyl reaches freezing temperatures during shipping, not a lot of semi trailers have heaters. I couldn't find Oracals recommended storage temp but 3M says between 4-38° C storage temperature, but that probably means months, not 8-10 hours.

As long as you let it warm up to room temperature before you use it then you're probably ok.

-20? pffft...

I leave stuff in the garage/car/truck all the time, and it's never been a problem. I just let it come back to room temperature slllooowwwwwlllyyy. I'd be more concerned about condensation forming and ruining the backing than temperature messing with it. For that reason, when I do decide to bring it inside, I usually open the box up and open up the plastic bag it comes in and leave it overnight.

i think you might have more to worry about the shelf life. it probably was on sale because it was old stock, now your going to "stock" it yourself...

old vinyl isn't ideal.

I don't think it was old stock, this supplier has regular sales all the time. I will check the codes though, thanks.

Working for yourself and being presented with these grey areas is frustrating for me. You want to represent a upright brand but then your always presented with lifes little quirks. First thing that came to my mind, vinyl is ok applied in freezing temps no? Meaning after its been applied it doesn't fail in colder parts of the country ?

Vinyl cracks in the cold. I always heard it has a shelf life and that it needs to be keep between 45 - 75 degrees at all times.
But I don't know if it's ruined or not.
