Is Sign Agent worth it?

Our sign shop here at UVA is growing and moving. We are merging with another department that wants to implement an online sign management system called Sign Agent. www.signagent.com
Personally I'm not a fan of cloud based systems, so I am asking if anyone is using it or has any opinions about the idea.
Thanks in advance

Accuracy and convenience of tasking sign locations, especially way finding, almost demands cloud connectivity. The cloud may be served via a third party or that of the university. All one can do is to be mindful of the risks and rewards and hope for the best. Ask any bank or hospital.

See an earlier thread from a year ago in the meantime...

Alternatives To SignAgent For Plan Reviews?

...however, IMO I can only guess that SA might be overkill and I know the university has FileMaker admins, especially in the health departments, who would say FileMaker as the platform can handle what you're after. The biggest challenge is time, money not so much.

Good luck!

Hey Souldar.
I work for SignAgent, so I thought I'd share a little more. We're a full lifecycle project and asset management system for signage. We are cloud-based because we are a collaborative database system that acts as a single source of truth. Different people with different roles in different places need access to the information at different times. We are used by design firms, sign shops, and built environment owners for every stage in a signage program, from survey, planning and design (Design) to fabrication and installation (Build), to on-going management and maintenance.
If you want to learn more, book a demo with your team and we'll be happy to answer any questions or concerns you might have and set you up with a 30-day free trial so you can try it for yourself.
All the best,
James

I can't speak to SignAgent specifically.
About 5 years ago we went to a cloud based system that houses Sales/Design/Production/Installation. They growing pains were difficult, but I don't know how we did without it.
There is a trail for everything so, you can see when something was changed from proofed to printed to quality controlled. Plus it keeps your attached quotes/customer files/proofs with the job indefinitely.
We used a different software/paper workflow and there weren't enough details kept/provided when we would have reorders. Now all the info is in there and hard for people to skimp on details.

We use sign agent with one of our largest clients, they use it to manage their wayfinding signs across multiple sites, we log in and download the artwork files as needed to produce.

I find it extremely un-intuitive to use, also it can not handle simple things such as double sided signs where each side has a unique message, and exporting different files for different processes.

I live with it because my client likes it, but I would never pay for the software.

In less than a month we’re launching a new Build UI for sign fabrication and installation. The current Design UI does require training and on-boarding. The Build UI will be easier to use and won’t require a license. It’s meant to guide the production and installation processes and improve lines of communications during projects. The launch will include a new Install app that will work on Android devices. Will post here when it’s live.

I look forward to it, I've voiced my concerns multiple times with sign agent staff and I seldom get a reply.

Figuring out how to prioritize feature requests is one of the biggest challenges for a software company. Send me a direct email if you like and I'll look into the status of any past requests you've made and at least get you a clear answer either on our timelines or reasons for not implementing. Just send to james@sxxxxxxxx.com. (Don't want to put the actual address in here to avoid bot spam).

In my last post I promised to announce when SignAgent Build becomes available. It's now live.
Build enables clients to request quotes for signs, providing sign shops with all the specs, information, and instructions needed to provide fast, accurate pricing for production and installation. It also includes a customizable project kanban and access to a new Android and iOS compatible Install app to guide installations in the field.
You can learn more here: https://signagent.com/signagent-launches-build/
