Tried that. Didn't work.
With my shapes selected, create New Action, name it hit Record
draw a vertical line segment to left edge of artboard, draw a line segment to the right
add those to my selection then run the alignment. Distributes as desired. Delete line segments.
Stop recording.

Yes, visual accuracy. Suppose you have 3 bulleted lists and you want them to be evenly spaced horizontally.
