Issue with 50/50 perf + laminate

[TSC1985]

Has anyone come across this issue with "streaking" marks staying on laminated window perf? I am used to some of these staying (even with very light install touch) but will come up over time however its been a week and client says most are still apparent. Any advice on how to remove, fix, or avoid in future please let me know.

this is why i hate sheet laminating perf, especially on a contour.
even with the slightest touch, you're still conforming a pattern of holes with a piece of clear bridging over it, and its gonna lay slightly stretched wherever your squeegee/hand-tension is applying it.

managed to limit this on flat windows, by setting a horizontal hinge and hoping to just let it "lay-down" from top to bottom & assisted with some transfer mask to keep it as rigid as possible during application.

The instructions on the back of the liquid laminate I have says to use a high density foam roller or a short knap roller.

yes.. We've used it once on window perf and it came out like the picture above. In fact, I thought the picture above was with liquid lam.
The customer was not at all pleased and worried that the streaks wouldn't go away, so we reprinted it. and now we dont laminate any window perf.

I thought the idea would be that the liquid lam would not cover the holes... Or are we talking about adding liquid lam after installation?

On this perf in particular, I'd have the customer park it in the sun for a couple of days before redoing it. I understand its been a week already, but are they parking it indoors when not in use?

I have watched a few videos from the manufacture and it says to put it on rather thick, as it sits it seems to level out and marks disappear. I watch the manufacture spray it on perforated and the holes stayed open.

Says best way is with a HVLP gun at 45 psi pressure.. looked pretty nice when they pealed it after sitting. Will have to experiment with it I guess

We do laminated window graphics all the time. Have never had that happen. Perhaps your installer is stretching the material and/or squeegeeing too hard--perhaps with a chiseling technique? Any places where we see that immediately after installation, it goes away on its own with exposure to heat and cold outside. It generally comes from making the laminate stick to the window through the holes of the perf.

That's my thought, but that it's garage kept and not getting that sweet sweet UV radiation.

I prefer to avoid laminate too, but sometimes it's required for safety purposes (e.g. passenger vans for daycare facilities). Certain situations become more dangerous when a rainy day blurs everything. For those jobs I'll use optically clear laminate.
