Issue with Initial Media Load on HP Latex 315 - Endless Spooling and Extended Calibration Time

Hi everyone,
I’m experiencing a frustrating issue with my HP Latex 315 printer when loading media for the first time. Here’s what happens:

1. When I load the media for the first time, everything seems normal at first— the menu appears, and the loading process starts as usual.

2. However, the printer then begins to spool the media downwards continuously, and it never stops. It just keeps spooling endlessly without any further progress.

3. To resolve this, I have to turn off the printer and restart it. After the reboot, I can resume the media loading, and it does load, but then it hangs for a long time—around five minutes—during the calibration phase.

4. The display shows “calibrating” with a loading animation, and eventually, it completes, but the initial loading and calibration are very slow and problematic.

I changed the line sensor but the problem didn't go away.

Does anyone know what might be causing this issue? Any advice or solutions would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

Clean OMAS glass and check your firmware is up to date.
I assume you ran the line sensor calibration because it's a must after replacement.

Actually one more thing comes to my mind. If nothing else, try to clean the drive roller encoder and sensor on the left side.

I did run the head alignment after replacement. is it enough or is there another special calibration?
The Firmware is the latest.

OMAS seems clean. Maybe i should replace it?

Where exactly is drive roller encoder? Do you have a reference picture by any chance?

Thanks

OMAS glas should look shiny blue, not greyed. I would replace it cause everything points to this tracking sensor.
The drive roller encoder is not easy to access fully, because you need to remove iss and cartridge holder.

Could be the media presence sensor in back of the machine. I had such a strange loading behaviour once on a L570 and it finally was a dirty sensor. (You will need to remove both side covers and the back panel to access it.)

Yeah, my OMAS has seen better days. Do you have an instruction on how to replace it? I've bought it but i can't find a guide. I can figure it out but better to have something to read :)

Just unsrew the platen that holds the OMAS, unclip the brown clip holding the cable. Then connect the the new OMAS which comes with the platen preassembled and fit it into the print platen. Do not try to calibrate the OMAS, it won’t work and it is not necessary.

you should see that OMAS... it is like destroyed. Also the cable has a burned hole in it, seems like a short circut... Will need to replace the cable as well but can't find it for now :(

The original OMAS contains the sensor with platen and the cable with all ferrite necessary. Routing the cable is a lot of work. Good luck
