Jeti 1224 Ink consumption question

Hello all!

Long story short we are burning through the ink. It is probably my profiles, I am fairly new to profiling.

We are running 6 color, 200 density in the Jeti GUI (probably too much) printing from Illy to Onyx 10.

I am torn between profiling through onyx or through the i1pro 2 software..my profiles now are painfully built through onyx.

I profiled our Roland eco-solv with the software and the results were great...

We are going through a ton of ink and I'm wondering if it is using all the colors to create black because we are using very little of the actual black ink.

Our general (yard sign) settings are 9 pass 300x600 1800 headspeed and 200 densities

Any tips or pointers? Awesome printer otherwise! Pretty good for the 5th one built lol.

:thankyou:

these are older flatbeds, getting help won't be very easy. We went to look at one a few months ago.. they suck ink. Profiles help a bit, but these machines need to be running all day every day to stay alive, and keep good ink flow. And if you want less ink, you're going to have more banding.

good luck

Does the Gandi have any options for calculating ink usage? If not, did you spring for the feature in Onyx? What is your average ink cost per square foot? I am currently running a job that uses the most ink I have ever seen on my flatbed and it is around 2.4 g per square foot. Thats $.36 per sqft with my ink cost. Normally, I run around $.14 - $.22 depending on coverage. Keep a close eye on your operators as well. Does the machine require a lot of manual purges to get up and running? How often do they purge and for how long? On the profiling side, your options for ink usage pretty much revolve around your ink restrictions, total ink limits and GCR. Are you running light inks? Fiddle around with in Onyx and try to introduce light ink into the curve later.

Edit -
Before you set your restrictions in Onyx, you should look measure your Chroma per channel using your current ink setting of 200%. If you are only getting more density and not more chroma by running 200%, you can back this off a bit. I have a similar feature on my Inca called Saturation which can be set up to 400%. Typically, I run most jobs at 150% but I also have profiles built for 200% and 300% depending on need.

also, keep an eye out for air leaks. is your waste tank/tray filling up quicker than usual? if so the printer may be sweating ink while not in use.
