JF 1631 printing head problems

Hi guys,

I'm a novice in the printing field and new on the forum. I've been working with a 1631 for 3 months now. Never been trained except by the ex operator in his last 3 days of working here. For the last 2 weeks I've been running a big printing job and had no problem but a little banding. Yesterday, when I did the test draw the black didn't come out at all. I did a few fill ups, did a test draw, it looked good but in the middle of the job black didn't come out again. I performed a new fill up, ran a small job and it looked OK. Today after the daily maintenance I can't get rid of nozzle clogging. Do you have any suggestion, please?

Thank you.

Sounds like your capping is out of alignment. If you don't have an adjustment tool, you'll have to contact Mimaki and schedule a tech to come in.

do you have the jv1631 service manual? i think i've emailed about 20 of those out in the last month. to check for capping alignment, paint the top of the caps with ink, park the head on the capping station. get a flash light and look for the imprint that the ink transferred to the bottom of your print head.

as far a tracking the lack of black ink, i can't imagine it's much different with your machine than any other ink jet printer. do some searches about "ink starvation" so you can familiarize yourself with the issue and how to isolate it. although i doubt that you have dampers, you can search under "damper swap" that will lead you to some discussion about isolating ink starvation too.

thank you guys.
artbot you email the service manual to me too. i changed the pump, it works well. i spoke with a mimaki tech and he suggested the alignment too. we ordered the adjustment tool. it should come tomorrow and i'll try the alignment as soon as i get it.

Hello Artbot, Do you have a maintenance manual for the Mimaki JV3 160?
