Just took the plunge and purchased a new shop

Here is a simple floor plan of my shop, with my current thoughts on the layout of the shop. The building is just a big open shell, so there is not much to show with pictures. I'm moving from a 2800 sqft shop that I rent. My current bay has only a 9ft door, which limits the size of the vehicle I can letter.

My website is www.jhdesign-jeremyhogan.com to show the scope of my work.
Its been a great year, I have a ton of new work that hasn't made it to my website yet.

Since I'm a one man shop and travel for most of my vehicle installs, my thoughts are to be able to take in any vehicle within reason that comes across my desk and not have to travel to use someones garage, so I can multi-task at the shop and not lose that time to travel.

As for the size of the shop - I like everything to have its place and its easily accessible, I feel I'm more productive when I'm organized.

It has a lot of potential after seeing your floor plan... if needed the 20x28 can be used as a cut room; saws, routers, etc, if you are in to that sort of thing! LOL

With a shop that size you're obviously in the business for growth. attached is my short idea of how i would get there.

forgot the work bench, i'd put 2 24 footers next to the bathroom.

I think the SEARCH FUNCTION on this site is lousy, I have talked to Fred about this many times.

I just searched Signs101 for PRODUCTION TABLE, and you can see in the screen capture (below), the results I got, just pitiful, nothing even close.

Then I did a Google search for PRODUCTION TABLE, and you can see in the second screen capture, results are related to PRODUCTION TABLES.

Maybe I don't know the secret, but the Signs101 search function hasn't worked well for me.

:frustrated:

We use freefind for our website, it searches appropriately and very quick

I agree, I just typed in shop photos and nothing even close came up, from my iPad

We too are moving into a new building and am looking for idea's from this excellent form and group of people.

Thanks everyone for the kind words and taking a moment out of your day to throw some ideas my way. Its a big step and I'm wanting to to put it together right the first time. I'll make sure to post some finished pictures - I'm hoping to move in march - once again thank you and enjoy your weekend - off to the shop I go.

And while you are there, do not forget to fix the "Print Gallery" page on your site ... see my previous post :)

We just moved about 2 months ago into a building 3x the size as the last one. Our sales have increased and this building is now a bit too small. when the lease is up we may have to find another location. Good luck. It was scary for us to move and increase our overhead in this economy but with our increasing figures in the past month alone not worried about the increase now.

I went from 3,000 s.f. to 6,000 s.f. and our next move is going to be 28,000 s.f. What's scary is I can see us outgrowing that in the not too distant future. I just dread the thought of getting everything moved and set back up without having to stop production for too long a period. Thankfully the move is only three miles.

Just a quick update! My 14 ft overhead door is getting installed this week - I think I'm more excited about this than anything else.
The rest of the build is underway and I can not wait till its complete. Its nice to hear the great news of all the shops that are growing/moving. I do have a question concerning this - are you expanding services and offering more or are you experiencing substantial growth within the services being offered.
