Just wrapped my tahoe

First off, it looks like you did a nice job on the install! That design style is not something I care for personally. It reminds me a lot of those guys in California, West Coast Customs, I think they call themselves. You know the show with the midget boss covered from head to toe in ink who started with a loan from his grandfather. I've always thought their logo was hideous. Too much tribal, tatted up, grunge for my taste. But I guess that's why we all have different styles.

There are a few examples where it works, in music mostly, but I have a hard time seeing it used in mainstream advertising myself. I think one day it will fade away and graphic design work will go back the way of legible and clean.

But knowing the way things are today, it will most likely stay around for many years.
Anyway, you did a good job on your vehicle.

Looks wicked. That will absolutely get attention due to the sharp contrast of white on black. So many wraps are photos of this that and the next thing...just because they can put it on then they do.

As for the comments above, I read it as 'high' octane right away, but yeah, 'goat' wraps...I think a tweak is needed there. And I would add the URL for your website. That'll make a difference.

Thanks for sharing, nicely executed.

I like it. Personally, I read it as High Octane as well until I saw some of the other posts and went back for a closer look.

I read somewhere that our brains put a higher importance on the first and last letters when reading anyhow. Not that everyone should use this theory, but in this case, it seems to hold true.

Looks Nice, My only remark would be the "outline" around the graphic. Take a little extra time and round those points out, don't let them square off so bad at a point. (just one of my pet peves) Outlines around objects. Looks like my Corel's contour tool, seems to do that kind of square off alot. But Great job from what I see on the install...M*

First impression was a tattoo or race shop not a sign/wrap business.

I thought it read Hugh also.

Also: Looks like you dotted the right stem of the H on the drivers side; I'd apply some white in the crease of the door handle...

Wow, this site can humble a person pretty quick. When I designed this I was pretty proud and have had overwhelming great remarks from it. Already sold a few more wraps and it hasn't been on 24 hours yet. It's not even finished. Roof, bumper, phone number and web address need added.

Let's cover some of the thoughts. First spelling of "Hygh" high octane graphics was already taken, by a lot of companies. Hygh is easy to remember and puts me top in google everytime. Plus how many graphics companies actually spell graphics right? More don't than do. Couldn't use my name because there is a high end amplifier company called jeff rowland, so I just went out of the box. "Hygh Octane" name came about because the majority of my work is in the Powersports/racing industry and now breaking into the wakeboarding tow boat market. Also the reason it's not a "plain corporate" look. I'm branching out and gearing towards the work I do and want to do. Anybody can outline Ariel font and add every photoshop filter available. That's not me, never has been. Wraps I do you'll see at the track or the rigs that haul custom cars in dub magazine. It's a niche not really mainstream. I've done the mainstream and nothing wrong with it, heck you've probably seen my stuff all over sign business magazine for multiple auto art contest wins and signcraft. I did a lot of that when I was head designer for 317 graphics. I'm kinda in a different stage now, lol actually makes me hold on to my youth longer. Lol some of the opinions I see though, the line that breaks between the "y" and "g" could be thicker to separate them more. Banding, not really. I would call it the bi- directional lawn mower effect. Unfortunate I haven't got to a point to where I own my own equipment so I rely on a local shop to print for me at a wholesale price. I tested this grey with every profile we had available and just couldn't get the color I wanted without the striping. The jet test were fine, the media feed test were fine and the bi directional was set fine. The printer is an hp8000s and was just gone over and maintained by an Hp tech 2 days before. This color is just an issue we haven't figured out. The color is just 80% black. Any suggestions on fixing that are welcomed.

Someone asked about the taillights, yes window perf. Just tested them on here, worked like a charm, light shines right through them. I'll replace them with solid black and do the turn signals in the front.

As for the contrast of color, it's crazy strong. A 100 yards away you see it and it looks like a big white logo on black. Get up close you see all the detail, exactly what I wanted.

Plus let's remember this is a wrap, I can change it next week if I don't think it works. I'll post a picture of what it looked like before.

With this design, you aiming more towards an edgie crowd. That's cool if that's your target audience. I like edgie things, just me I guess.
We wrapped our first vehicle very wild. Got alot of attention from racers, kids with rice burners and so on. Have since changed our image, targeting the people who spend the money (business's).
Yeah our vehicles dont look as wild as we like but they are effective and thats the bottom line.
I like the look, if your happy with it than thats great. If it gets you lots of business thats fantastic.
Reality is, a business looks at what you represent yourself as. If you look like some street racer or tattoo shop, most likely corporate accounts will not even talk to you.
Just my .02 (like i said i like it, just not for representation of a business)

That's Great news!

Hygh puts you at the top of google? That's probably because no one would ever spell that way. Hygh is hardly a good mispelling for a company name. Graphix isn't really good either.

No one was really bashing the name, just that it is hard to read.. WHICH it is.

Plus how many graphics companies actually spell graphics right?
A lot actually.

More don't than do. Couldn't use my name because there is a high end amplifier company called jeff rowland, so I just went out of the box. I think your branding is good for you audience you want to attract, but i would never cut out the corporate world, they can give you a chit ton of business.. at least they do for us.

I'm branching out and gearing towards the work I do and want to do. Anybody can outline Ariel font and add every photoshop filter available. That's not me, never has been. Nope never seen them. I've actually had 4 cars in Dub. Which ones did you have?
Actually im working on wrapping a car for DUB for the up coming SEMA show

I did a lot of that when I was head designer for 317 graphics. I'm kinda in a different stage now, lol actually makes me hold on to my youth longer. Grey always prints bad. I think the company you use to print need to write some good color profiles

Here's what my Tahoe used to look like.

Coloradosigns yes this black rig was in dub. I only help consult on the design stage of it. Had it printed an i did the install. You got a car in sema, that's awesome congrats. Bigtime right there.

Here's a rig for sidexside racing team.

What about "Hi" instead of hygh?
That's just so weird looking I can't get past it, even though you are doing everything else right.

Jill beans thanks but I don't think I'm going to change the name of my company. People will adjust. Google wasn't a normal word when it started but now a household name worldwide. Does that mean Hygh Octane will be, probably not but doesn't mean people won't get it

I too, can't get past the name. Every single time I read "hugh" and then yeah, I figure out it says "hygh" but dang, that is the weirdest misspelling I've ever seen. I seriously think the name of your company could potentially be a detriment, but you said you aren't gonna change it so no use mentioning it. If you are seriously targeting the racer/customizer crowds they probably won't care, but I can certainly say that at least with the name, you are turning off a large, potentially higher-end market share.

One other thing I don't like, I think you could have simplified the type on the back, if it were a bit lighter and simpler, it would contrast more with the larger bolder type and compliment it more in my humble opinion. In a weird way it kinda competes with it now.

Many have said your design is too "out there" but I actually think it is fairly restrained. A bit loud, yes..but that is your market and all in all good job. You should seriously try and get rid of that banding though, try rasterizing a gray color and maybe adding a list bit of noise. I have a lot of experience with gradients and trying to fix em, trust me.

Oh, did I mention I hate the name?

;)

"Banding, not really. I would call it the bi- directional lawn mower effect"

Is that the printers words or yours? I'd ask him to re-print it in uni-directional mode. After all, you are the "specialist" so your wrap has to be absolutely perfect. Put it this way, if I can see the banding in a photo, it must look like crap in real life.

Otherwise, I dig the design. I read Hygh the first time although it took a second to process. I like the dark grey on black with the white text too.

80% black? wrong way to print gray.

your bi directional lawmower man turbo hyphy effect looks like it was printed by a monkey with a banana. if your selling wraps, i sure hope you find a new printer.

other than that, the wrap looks nice.

Targeting the edgy race car type guys eh? Those are the guys I duck and hide from. If I had a dollar for every one who said "I'll let you put your logo on my car/trailer if you wrap it for nothing. I'm gonna be on ESPN 8 the ocho next month. You will get sooo much exposure. All my racing buddies will want (free) wraps too."

Nahhh. I'll stick to commercial graphics. Got too many bills to pay.

I don't wrap for nothing. The wraps I do in the racing industry are charged for. What I like about the industry, some of them come back the following year to change the wrap with new sponsors.
