JV3-160 SP and Flexi 8.6 Print Modes

Morph1

Print all
Hey all,

I just wanted to verify something that I've noticed once in a while...,
in flexi scanvec rip when I select 360 x 1080 print mode I notice it automatically sets on 6 pass , well great .. now when I print I look at the JV3 printer dial and it shows 360 x 540 x 3 pass ...? what is happening here, shouldn't the printer dial have displayed the same res as assigned in the scanvec selection which is 360 x 1080....

any help would be appreciated.

thanks,

Drew

The JV3 doesn't actually have the capability to print at 360x1080. When it receives information like that, which is outside of its parameters, it defaults to the next lowest setting with a comparable number of passes, which in this case is 360x540.

The list of possible resolution/pass combinations is listed on page A.2 in the operation manual.

I thought it would be greyed out or not even there in the scanvec res selection, after all the printer specific driver had been loaded , you would think it would eliminate unreachable print mode from displaying lol

thanks,

I hear ya. I remember pulling my hair out back in the day, trying to figure out why it wouldn't print at 32 passes, even though I was telling it to. It was a real headdesk moment when I picked up the operations manual as a last minute thing and saw the chart there.

may I also ask what is the most universal heat setting printing cast vinyl,
on JV3-160 SP

Whatever works.

Typically, your aim is to get the recommended heat to the ink so that it can cure. If you're using SS2 inks, they say your target should be 35°C. I adjust based on the number of passes I'm using (how long any particular pass is staying heated), the thickness of the material, and most importantly, what the actual material will tolerate without wrinkling and screwing up the whole point of messing with settings anyway.

I get wave pattern on the vinyl when set to 31 front and back using 3m IJ180 I have been using 29 -30 heat setting to eliminate that printing 8 pass 720/720 but then I heard some othe people with other printers using up t0 42 and even higher....
this is the reason I ask, banner is fine at 35/35 but cast vinyl I might as well turn the heat right off....

That could have a lot to do with the quality of your vinyl. That being said, my settings are typically lower than most on here as well, and lower still with vinyl. Seems to transfer the heat much better to the ink than with a thicker banner material anyway.

It's very rare that I'd go as high as 42°C, which is still low compared to some of the settings I've seen on here, but in the end it's whatever works for you. Most of our banners print at 36°C pre, and 34°C post.
