I cannot tell you how often this happens. Customer sends me artwork. I tell them that the file is too low of a resolution to recreate from. It was from a business card so I told them to scan at a higher resolution.

They sent it to me a 2nd time (sample 1 below) and insisted it was now 600 dpi. Absolutely no way, unless the image was 1/8 inch tall. So they did finally send a new file on the third try (sample 2). Much better

It is frustrating. I am not sure how many jobs I have lost when they must think I am crazy but in fact they just don't know how to operate their scanners or software

Moral - check your files before you send them off. Zoom into your art. When I trace, i always have to be zoomed in to trace unless it is incredibly crisp or simple.

Another similar mistake is when I am sent a thumbnail image rather than the original higher res artwork.

Just a thought but ever think adding a service where you do it for them maybe for $15 fee or something. Quickly remote in, scan it at rez you need and done. You get the job plus some extra moolah and they get a quick lesson for future reference. Like I said just an idea.

I hear you pain Eric, and you're talking to "experts" here. Often what I send you is after the same conversation I have had with some clueless person who feels I am being a jerk for asking them to actually do some work.

Something like Team Viewer it doesn't matter. However, I can't tell you how many times I have to deal with this. I even get crappy photoshop files that have elements layered that don't have transparent backgrounds and text is hidden.

I cringe every time I think about it.

I think you can. The ones that are browser based, seems like long as it's seeing the internet through the browser, you can take control.

The worst part is that the good art is available but they couldn't operate the software properly to get it to me. I can understand if they got it from the webpage. But this was a decent business card, they just needed to scan it in properly.

And there is the issue in which someone will scan in the ENTIRE PAGE at 600-1200 dpi and not crop so I get a 50+mb file that should have been 1-2 mb

Happens all the time with me and people wanting embroidery done. They just don't know, don't care, or figure they are paying you for a result, so you have to deal with it.

Bad thing is, if I'm able to wade through the crappy file and give them what they want, that just supports that theory.
