L26500 magenta dropping out

So of course I have/had a rush job for the end of the day today (not going to happen) it's a partial wrap on a ford.

Anyway I start printing everything looks fine then then the printer starts to band, and the color shifts and it looks like my magenta head/heads are dropping out. I run the test print #5 is missing a few nozzels but nothing major #6 is fine. I do a cleaning and try again and get the same result.. Both heads have around 500mls through them and are still under warranty LM is at 90% full and M is at 35%.. I have an HP dealer in town but they are not trained on this machine and will not help me.

any ideas?

Looks like a bad head to me. Sometimes heads are firing ink in the test print but when they need to work on more heavy colors on prints thats when they fail. Happened to me more than once.

I concur.... I would replace the one with missing nozzles and try again. Occasionally the heads will overheat, or randomly just fail. Get with your supplier and have them warranty the head for you.

Called and got another print head shipped out.. It must happen ALOT, all he he asked me was how much ink has gone through the head then said yup shipping one out today. I asked him if I had to ship the old one back he said maybe..

how easy to get a head warrantied when the printer goes out of warranty?

Printheads are consumable items that have their own use-based warranty that is separate from the printer. The warranty for printheads is up to 1 liter of ink (1000 ml/cc) after which the head is no longer warranted.

I always keep extra of everything needed to run the HP Latex printers, heads, ink, cleaning kits. You never know when a problem will arise.

me too. I know i can get a new printhead for the next day, or perhaps at the same day if it breaks at the morning, but sometimes that may be too late :)

Not totally correct. HP will not honor the warranty after the date on the head package. You don't want to have too many that might end up sitting around too long and go past the warranty date.

This isn't true, we have warrantied 2 heads outside of the expiration date. The heads encode the date of first use and its 1 year from that date according to HP Tech Support.
