Laminating Perf

Hey everyone,

So I've never laminated perf before but I'm doing a job where it has to be laminated and I was wondering what the process is. Is it the same as laminating regular vinyl and would the perf install remain the same?

In case it helps, I'm using Orajet 3675 Perf and Oraguard 290GF Lam. Also, the laminator I'm using is a GFP 363TH (if that helps)

Thanks!

when we laminate perf we always use an optically clear lam.
the install is pretty simple working in small strokes as to not stretch it and working at leaving no air bubbles. the air doesnt work out easily.
we do trim the laminated perf back from the window edge 1/8th to 1/14 inch and use a good edge sealer or a tape laminate.

So when laminating it with a laminator, it just like any other vinyl?

Not sure about the lam you chose but make sure it is optically clear. I use Avery 1360z. If it's not optically clear, I can assure you the client will not pay.

Make sure to use the Oraguard 290-F for it.
So I used Oraguard 290-GF and it came out awful. When I installed, there are streaks. I've attached a pic of what it looks like. What did I do wrong?

Did you apply dry with a felt squeegee? Can't apply wet with lammed perf cuz the fluid gets stuck in the holes. Also I've found a regular squeegee can scuff the lam.

Looks like either a laminating issue or pressing too hard and the laminate stuck to the glass.

those streaks are from your squeegee. its hard to do without getting those. soft even pressure and even strokes help. but the good news is, they tend to go away after its been in the sun a while.
if you work it slow and easy with a soft squeegee i tend to not get the marks that bad.

So I can't find the name of it, I checked their website and it isn't there, but I used to have a Motul product which was used for cleaning the interior of cars, similar to Armor All but made by Motul. If there were squeegee marks on laminate after install I would wipe that on and it would completely take them away. I haven't had it for a couple of years now, so maybe they don't make it anymore, but if you have something similar in your garage maybe give it a try on some scrape material.

If anything goes wrong don't blame me, use at your risk. May or may not help, just a suggestion of something that has worked for me in the past.

I have found that using a bill collector instead of a squeegee has helped to avoid that. If you press too hard with a squeegee, you tend to get that "wet look". If you don't have one yet, make sure to get the bill collector. I have about 10 of them at my shop and in the few months I've had them, I'd be willing to bet it saved me about 50 hours of work.
