Lamination question...

OK...This may sound a little "off", but I had an idea...

I've got about 120' of material i need to lam. The material is on our printer's take-up roll right now.

Has anyone every used the front "kraft paper" roll bar on their laminator to hold that take-up roll with your print on it, and then just run it straight through the laminator?

I'd like to do this if I can, but dont' want to ruin the material if ya'll think it won't work.

I'm not quite sure what you're asking but if I get it, you want to use kraft paper as a leader so you can reach the take up real and then you want to laminate directly to a roll of material. I'm assuming it's a vinyl on the liner. You certainly can do that, as a matter of fact there no better way to do that. The only thing you need to do is make sure that your laminate is not wider than your material because it will stick to the rollers and then you'll have a mess.

yep i took the roll off the take up reel and did the same thing you are describing and had lam wider than the print and it was a mess.

Lam is the same size as the material (3m 8518). I'm actually kind of nervous because I don't want to ruin a perfectly good roll of IJ180-Cv3...

Hey Gary..put a leader through first so everything is nice, smooth, wrinkle free. Fit your roll of print to your spindle under the laminator, pull print up and over the feeding tray thing. Tape the leading edge of your printed roll to the leader, making sure that your all lined up and everything is square and push run.
If it starts to run off a little after a few yards, more than 1/2" cut between a printed panel, realign and retape and push run.
