Large ACM Prints?

After printing a large full sheet (4x8) ACM single sided do you remove the protective film from the opposite side or leave it? Does it serve a purpose when installed? We print only and do not install and have recently started printing ACM for a few customers. We have been leaving the protective film but it is just as easy to remove it if it serves no purpose other than protect the unprinted surface prior to printing. Thanks for the help!!

All the brands I use here in Australia say to remove before or within 48hrs of install, I remove it anyway, especially if you can see the back of the sign as after a couple of years the protective film gets tattered and looks crap.
