Large Wall Mural

80'x14' wall wrap, ceiling to floor. They requested that we do not use low tack vinyl as they have had bad experience in the past with it. Wall wrap will only be up for 3-4 months and they don't care if there is any damage to the drywall when it is removed. Wondering how others would go about it.

Would this be a good job for the big squeege? Never used one before but would buy one if it would speed up the install. Panels will be 52"x14', vertical, is that too much for the bs to handle? Would I have an issue with skewing and having panels not line up?

If no big squeege, how would you go about it?

I think we would want to use an air release vinyl just for ease of install. We don't have to laminate the panels but unlaminated vinyl is harder to install. Would you consider masking the panels? Even with air release? Masked panels of air release would be pretty easy to install, we would probably put the top 6" down after aligned, then pull down 2-4 feet of backer at a time and use a 12" squeege, probably take 20 minutes per panel.

I guess I'm just wondering how others would do it. Air release vinyl or regular vinyl? Unlaminated and no app tape, unlaminated with app tape, or laminated without app tape? Would you use the big squeege? Our goal is to have a quick and painless install, a few hundred extra cost of material is no big deal for this one.

Any insight greatly appreciated.

I would go with laminate for ease of install (it's also more stable so it doesn't shift or stretch while applying from top to bottom). I would also use air release because the one we use is only $0.02 more per sqft.

I wouldn't use vinyl if I could get away with it because it shrinks. I would steer toward a polyester fabric material such as phototex. Doesn't shrink and you dno't need to laminate and looks awesome. There are other brands I just can't remember right now. I'm sure someone here can tell you exactly which brand to use for a short term application like yours.

I agree, but they specifically requested a high tack vinyl.

For that length of time I'd use a matte laminated monomeric vinyl with blockout adhesive.
The stuff we use wouldn't shrink much in that time especially with latex ink.
No real need for air release unless the paint is full gloss.
Start in the middle, chalk line a straight edge and check every few panels to avoid running out too much.

I do alot of murals and I backup the idea of Bly. I love phototex, but my customers won't pay that premium price for a temporary wall design.
