Latex Print vs UV Print

What would last longer: Latex ink on vinyl, laminated and applied to substrate OR a UV printed graphics directly on substrate?

Any thoughts? I've always done vinyl, never UV printed so I can't compare the two.

I suppose there are different qualities of UV ink but we once had a Gerber Solara and there is no way that ink lasted (before fading) as long as Latex ink on vinyl, laminated and applied to substrate. All though don't expect the economy vinyls to last long either.

I don't have much information about latex machines, but most anything printed, when comparing OEM inks and UV machines, I would think for exterior use, almost anything will last longer than a flatbed print. Interior, the flatbed hands down.

To many variables. How long will the vinyl last? what printer/ink?
Some uv inks have poor adhesion, some have great adhesion.

UV lacks versatility, as well. Latex prints can be used on a wider variety of media, including flexible/wrap vinyl.
however, printing directly to substrate has its merits... particularly the labor involved in application, in addition to the cost savings of the vinyl/laminate not being used to apply to your panel.

better question is, why not have BOTH?!?

I worked at a shop that sometimes did 200-400 piece orders for construction companies. We could produce 100+ signs a day using our UV and have them ready to go the next day if they need clear coating.

Most of them where construction signage and we didn't even CC them.

Almost all our Coro signs were printed on the UV too.

UV has its advantages. Latex has its advantages. Advantages depend on your machine, your substrate, and application. It really helps if your sales people know how to sell the advantages of each machine too.

Our Vutek printed on Alum, Coro, foam, sandstone, vinyl, dibond, and gator.

In the two years I was at the store, we did not have a single sign come back for fading/chipping/ink issues.
