Licensing Question

Hey Guys,

Often I have clients that ask for certain images and I don't really have the time to walk them through catalogs etc.

I want to purchase a collection that I can upload to my website and direct the customers to this database. They could then choose the clipart/image they'd like incorporated into their project.

The actual clipart won't be provided on the site and only a small resolution image.

I've read Freds Licensing terms and this isn't allowed. Does anyone know of any collections where this is possible or will I have to enter into an extend licensing agreement?

Thanks
Jason

Hi Jason
what we do is direct clients to online catalogues and tell them that either they can purchase, or we will purchase the artwork on their behalf.
They find a few pics and then we usually take over to get the right res, rights, purchasing.
Works out ok.

.

i do a similar thing....customer tells me what they're interested in (i get a deposit), then find a few files that i know will work for production and that are close to what the customer wants, and email them links....ive found if you leave it up to the customer to get the artwork and bring it in, it's not always usable

try explaining that the $$ they just spent was a waste cause you cant use the file (ie: it's raster and you need vector):banghead:

I don't think you have that quite right Jason. Your usage would be allowed providing the images are safeguarded. While the language of our license has changed a bit over the years, here is a direct quote from our Express Clipart online license:

You may not display the images in a printed or online catalog as part of a product intended for sale or resale where the main selling feature is the image itself such as a T-shirt, mug, poster for resale, decal, etc., without contacting Allied Computer Graphics, Inc. in advance for permission or special enhanced licensing.

All that this means is that we are not going to allow any licensee to make a catalog item out of any of our clipart images and mass produce it, then sell it without paying a separate royalty for the image for each sale or an extra amount in bulk for the entire production of the item. There is no prohibition on displaying a catalog for selection for custom work.

To make your life easier, in fact, all of our images are shown online already in searchable databases where you may send your customers if you like. If you are a collection licensee, here is a link to our galleries. If you are a single image buyer, here is a link to the Express Clipart gallery.

If you're currently in the market for collections, we have a number of coupon deals running in the Signs 101 Classifieds. Here's a link to our various classified ads.

Clipart.com is a great paid subscription service. Have the customer look up what they want and give you the file number, and you have access to print ready files.
