Light Box Banner or something else

We were just asked to bid on several different items for a business out of our town. Due to strick sign ordinances we do not have many light boxes so we are not familiar. One of the items the customer wants replace is a shared panel in a large light box by the street. When I looked at it I expected to see some sort of plastic panel but it looks like the panel is banner material. Is this common? Would it be banner material or something else? The panel is 30" x 120". I did not open it up and I am assuming this is something easily replaced. I just want to make sure I am not missing something.

Hey there!

I typically use a thin plasticy substrate (roll) called "backlit." My plant is out for the moment so I must check with purchaser for vendor info, etc. I print using a Canon iPF9400 and giving it a few minutes more than other substrates for curing, I find it lightweight and relatively not-delicate. I think it's a 36" roll.

Nglantz carries Cooley-Brite or Arlon has one as well.
Ultraflex has one called Ultralon IV BL, you can get it at Grimco.

The flexface material is $$$$$. We are doing a project that it made more sense to outsource than buy a $1000+ roll of material. We rarely get a call for it. Best price I was able to find was from Georgia Printco. http://www.georgiaprintco.com/
They quoted 20oz. Cooltrans Backlit Banner with a clearcoat liquid laminate for me.

Yes,

The high price is what I discovered. I was really looking for a good outsource for it. I need two prints.

Are you going to install this as well? If so, make sure you find out how first. Do a search on youtube.

mista be careful the ipf9400 is not really an outdoor durable inkset.
cool, I appreciate the info!
I found out the substrate I was using is sold from Roland directly.
I haven't created backlit for outdoor lightboxes yet, so it was my oversight.
I should've thought about it living in the blistering heat of TX.
