You do a head wash in service mode. However, before you switch, considering the following. Are you currently using OEM or aftermarket ink? If you are using OEM, before you go to the trouble and expense of switching to aftermarket inks, you need to consider a couple of things. What is your printing volume and how often do you print? Also calculate how much is your ink cost per square foot for each ink brand, as opposed to how much per cartridge. You may be surprised at the number, likely within a few cents or less at most. You can always increase your sq ft cost to cover it, if it's that critical. I have nothing against aftermarket inks, and there are both good and bad ones out there, even worked for an aftermarket ink manufacturer for a couple of years, doing color profiling. Just don't let the cost per cartridge be the only deciding factor. Ink isn't like gas, where you look for the cheapest price. Consider everything, including cost of potential repairs and loss of work during repair downtime. Research the feedback on whatever ink you are considering. If it's good, go for it.

They have both been around for a long time and have good reputations. Just get it in writing and follow their instructions and document what you do with photographs, just in case.

I would make sure Bordeaux knows you are currently using STS ink and let them tell you how to proceed. The plug and play thing is usually when you are running Roland OEM ink.

Regarding 'warranty' on inks damaging heads, I guess they can say that, but will find anything to wriggle out of paying for a new head, even if it was damaged by their ink. The burden of proof would be on the customer most likely, so may be worth finding out what a warranty claim would involve before applying any of that weight to your decision.

i really would like to meet someone who got his print head replaced under one of those warranties

how can they possibly warranty this, since they don't know what condition your head was in, BEFORE the ink swap?

did you ever try to get an apple warranty on an ipad, on Dec 28th? they make you take the ipad to an apple store so an employee can inspect to
see you didn't drop it. which makes sense.

I had to replace hundreds of DX4 heads because of a 100% compatible ink, where the ink manufacturer (from the USA) gave a warranty on the heads.
Not one was paid for...
Since then, we sell only OEM.

It’s kind of like a rebuilt transmission warranty. What it entitles you to is an elaborate explanation of why EVERYTHING EXCEPT your situation is covered. In my business as a computer consultant I often explain to people that hard drives are like light bulbs. They operate for a LONG TIME, then suddenly they die. Print heads are sometimes like that as well.
