Looking at a PrismJet 48 Extra

I'm going tomorrow to look at a 48 inch PrismJet Extra. REAL reasonable. The guy said it's been sitting in the middle of his living room for 6 months. Said he does a test print about every two weeks, and they always look good. He will also do a test print while I'm there. What else should I look at, or look for? Can you pull up a print count somehow? How do you check the heaters? Just by the display?

If worst case scenerio, it needs print head(s), how many does it have, are they the thousand dollar ones? He said it's got another roller on the bottom, but he never figured out how to use it, or what is was for.

If I do decide to purchase, what steps should I take to transport it? I don't know if I can do the ink emptying/purging thing, with it being in his living room. It will have to ride in the back of my truck. Thanks in advance. Mike

What else should I look at, or look for? Do a nozzle check pattern, run atest print from the control panel, have him print a file that you bring with you.

Can you pull up a print count somehow? Not that I know of.

How do you check the heaters? Make sure they heat up when you send a print. Just by the display?

He said it's got another roller on the bottom, but he never figured out how to use it, or what is was for. Probably a take up reel, a great thing to have!

If I do decide to purchase, what steps should I take to transport it? Depends on how far you're going. You could probably get by taping the head all the way to the home positon if it's not far.

It will have to ride in the back of my truck. Might be good to take it off it's stand and fasten it down tight!

Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the reply's. The printer isn't hooked up to a PC, so all I'll have to go by is the nozzle check, and the test pattern from the printer control.

I told him the other roller was probably just a spare, so if the main one gets tired or something.

It's going to be about a 150 mile ride, I'm gonna take it off the stand, and take some stuff to set it on to give a little cushion, and some straps.

Don't know about a rip, said he's got some media and new inks, and some programs. He don't know, said his wife ran it.

We also sell all of that individually at good prices and can send out a service tech if need be, since PrismJET is a SignWarehouse unit.

Best,

Jim

Jim, are you back at SW?! Must be based on your current signature.

Yes indeed. They tried to get rid of me, but Texas is just too great to leave. So since they couldn't rid the state of me and ship me back to Seattle, they'll at least keep me off the streets during the week.

Either that or the economy is rebounding. It feels like it, thank gooodness.

One more question please. Are the heaters on this printer 110, or 220 volt. If they're are 220, I doubt the guy has a 220 in his living room, or maybe? Thanks Mike

Never mind, butthole sold it this morning. It was the printer, whatever software, 3 rolls of wrap vinyl, 1 roll clear stuff, ink in printer and new set, $500.00 bucks. Logistics were just working against me. Thanks for all the help. Mike

Could have been, but I don't think so. He seemed to somewhat know where they bought it, and what it cost. I didn't really think it was still gonna be there.

I know, "ya snooze ya looze", but it was physically impossible for me to get there until Tuesday afternoon. I did try to PayPal him a hundred dollar deposit to hold it for a day, but he "don't do paypal". Oh well.
