Looking for older versions of Omega

I am not in a position to purchase yet (which is why this isn't in the classifieds), but i am having trouble finding any older versions of the Omega Composer program. I definitely can't afford 5.0 yet, but I am more familiar with Composer than any of the other programs. Can anyone tell me where I might find an older version (preferably 2.5 or close), and approximately what the going prices might be?

Whats your goal in running omega? To drive a plotter? Run an edge? Just design?

There may be a far better and cheaper option out there depending on what you need to do if you can enlighten the crowd with your needs a bit.

Don't forget to consider the cost (and frustration) of the learning curve with new software. That might be more than you anticipate.

You might want to try to find a copy of Omega LS (layout station) and export the files to a lower cost cutting/printing program.

I found a new copy of Omega 5 LS on ebay last year for only $250 and it was still in the shrink wrap. There have been good deals here and there. Several places have even advertised $195 specials on LS for those who upgrade to Omega 5. Find a friend who is upgrading and throw in a few extra bucks for their effort.

Even at the full price of around $800 the layout station is still a good value for the low learning curve you want.

All I have ever used is Omega. I am faster with it (even the older versions). Right now I am only running a plotter. As far as what I am wanting to spend - I am really just trying to figure out what I need to save for. Are there other programs that have the same options as Omega? Like I said, all I have ever used was Composer so I am ignorant of other program's abilities. I just know that I don't like the LXi software that came with my plotter.

limiting yourself

by looking for an older program you are limiting yourself on the advantages of a newer program. its not the money spent but an investment. There are far greater advantages in keeping current with new software than in buying an older software and realizing that you will have to spend the money again because of feature you want or need.

It's not a matter of not wanting to pay the extra cost (I would LOVE Omega 5). It's a matter of needing a program that I know how to use, as opposed to taking so long trying to learn a new one and not being efficient. I will put up with the lesser technology for now to get my shop running. And running smoothly. After I start bringing in some money, I will gladly invest in the newest version. But thank you for your point of view. If I didn't already have a strong reason for my decision, your post would have given me some serious thought.
