Mail order problems! Money is raptured

I did some mail order in February, and now, 7 weeks later, the customer is saying that everything isn't in the box, but, he didn't call me about this problem, he went to payal first. Paypal, put a hold on my funds, for 350 dollars the decal sale amount. Paypal waited patiently, before they informed me.. Until money was deposited, then they did a crafty..-- snatch and grab" ( ironically for exactly the amount they needed.)

I realize this is a normal part of doing business, and although, I have done a somewhat substantial amount of mail order. I have fortunately never had many problems.

If the customer related this incident to me, I maybe should go the extra mile and send him some more graphics, but now, I'm at his mercy. My funds are held, I can send him more decals, but whats to say that the customer is legitimate with his complaint will act according to good principle ? Maybe he messed up putting on the graphic or something.I don't know.

Most businesses tell you to immediately report an incomplete order, within 7 days or so. This package was delivered 7 WEEKS AGO.

To be fair, I must add that the customer was on vacation, that's why he got to it late. I wish he had called me, so I could hear his voice, to get more of a feel for whats going on. ( he must be shy or something)

So paypal has me under the gun for the 350 dollars, for a so-called missing item in a package 7 weeks ago. Don't us vendors have a right to know about missing items sooner? I have a 7 day policy on this. It looks like me and Paypal, may be getting a divorce, if they act unfairly.

I am wondering, how far paypal or the customer's credit card company will view this 7 week delay thing and please....no get a lawyer jokes. lo. :omg:

P.S. This is not from Ebay, its my own web site.

I haven't yet got a hold of paypal,--closed Sunday.

pretty much with PayPal, you're screwed if you're the seller.

Here's what happens in situations like this.

Paypal puts a freeze. Then they go through the process. It's the same as any credit card processing company. The process may end immediately after you show them your policy. If you have a written policy that any issues must be addressed within 7 days, that might be enough for you to win. What you also should do is work on providing evidence that you packed up 350 pcs. This won't be incredibly easy to provide, but you can provide any digital files plus employee testimony.

This is just part of doing business. Sometimes you get a scumbag customer that tries to rip you off.

Here is what I learned from people making their living using PayPal.

Have all your policies set in place.
Make sure every sale is correctly documented.
Have a separate account for PayPal. As soon as the funds post withdraw them.
Hard to take funds that don't exist.
Many of them get direct calls which then allows them to show the "paper" trail.

One thing you can do to help prove the customer received it is get a proof of mailing or proof of delivery. This little thing greatly helps support your side.
Also be sure to make a check list of items placed in the box and check them off and date it. That helps prove that you checked off items as they were put in the box.

dump paypal and get Square! Easy , quick.

Paypal is tied to my Ebay, I buy alot and sell alot on the ebay. When I get funs in my Paypal I snatch them out quickly just for such crap as this. Paypal is the most poorly run organization ive ever seen, I hate them and I hate their ways of doing business.

But once this is resolved, dump them and get Square

My wife has had a similar thing happen to her. Twas an eBay transaction that happened last December 2015. The buyer purchased goods. She shipped them off and months later she receives a charge back for the total amount from PayPal via the buyers credit card institution.
The buyer claims they never received the item! It's a little hard to believe as she is a 100% rating for over 1500 transactions...
PayPal is now investigating the dispute and requesting evidence for shipping the item. No tracking number was recorded due the items weight and size, so the most cost effective postage was used.

Absolute scumbag this guy. Now awaiting a response from PayPal. The only evidence she provided was a screen shot of this guy's feedback left from his purchase. We'll he is an idiot after all for leaving feedback for an item he had never recieved.

Don't know what our chances are but hopefully the result is in our favor.
Hope the same goes for you!

Yes I agree, but I had a zero balance. I had a 350 dollar customer come along and they snatched those funds. It happened to be for the same amount as the recent sale. 350. ( they got lightning in a bottle)

Latest update.

I got it favorably resolved.

I called Paypal, and got to talk to a nice lady on the phone.
I calmly told her, what happened, and how I'm more than happy to send the customer the missing decals. I stressed to her that all the customer had to do, was notify me of the short package, I would have rushed him another no problem. ( I realized I did short the box a couple of decals. It was just 10 percent of the order) for that they put a freeze on the whole enchilada.

The phone lady then unfroze my account, just like that. A load of stress fell off.
Paypal did the right thing, I couldn't believe it.

I am still weary of this happening again.
It's too easy to find a complaint with a custom decal.
Terms and conditions must be meticulously displayed. :omg:

I'm glad you got it worked out. I'm out over 700 dollars from an international dispute that I lost. No more overseas shipping for me, period. Anyway, I have had a couple of paypal disputes against me, one of them was a fairly similar type of incident you are describing. I don't know why people can't ask before filing a claim.

Glad everything worked out. I believe Paypal to be just as bad as any other credit card processor. I find when you do the right thing and follow their rules, they rule in your favor. If you do something wrong (most common is shipping without tracking) then they will simply say "You broke the rules. We can't side with you."

Paypal has also changed a lot of their bad policies, mostly because they were legally forced to. Years ago, they would actually go into your bank account to take money from you on a refund. This was found to be illegal later, but it's one of the reasons Paypal earned a bad reputation.

I was wondering about if they can go into your account and do a dreaded snatch.
I would close my account with them, for sure, if that was true.
