Maintenance Station replacement question

I realise this may be a very stupid question.
I am on with replacing my Maintenance station (complete with pump assembly) on my VJ1604.
Do I have to power the machine down and discharge as I will have to disconnect the pump motor?
Or can this be done whilst the machine is still on?

turn the machine off. doesn't have to be unplugged, but you have to disconnect the power to the pump motor, so you want it to be turned off.

if you turn the printer off when you start, by the time you get the screws out and ar ready to take it apart, the power will be discharged enough.
