I am looking for a way to make a speed splatter effect similar to the one on the Ford Raptor graphics

How do I make something similar in Illustrator? It is for a Rallye car but I have a hard time creating a random pattern like that

or, use brushes. there are some pretty random brush templates, then you expand them out to get the vector shapes.

I'm a fan of using spatter brushes in photoshop, and then importing into illustrator to live trace and then distort/transform/roughen&tweek

that is, if i need vectored, but usually I just photoshop and keep the rasterized spatter for print.
