Manufacturer Issue with CJV150/160. Handling Suggestions Please

Last week my CJV150 went down 2 months out of warranty with an error saying
Error System Halt (2) 1b4:pCB SLDR2H-F2 after replacing F2 fuse it gave Error 187 HDC Slew Rate, then immediately blew the fuse. After speaking to tech support it was determined that the slider board needed to be replaced. I ordered one and hired my tech to install it. Mimaki has a flat rate charge of $1440 for labor and $1614 for travel! Long story short it wasn't the slider board it was something going on with the head. Below is what the tech determined with photos included. Should I pursue this or go ahead and buy a new head. Advice appreciated.

From tech:
It appears that this head should have never passed inspection!
There was an uncompleted attempt to repair an open via on the PCB. The wire was placed, and bent, but never soldered!

You can ask, but they have no obligation after the warranty period has ended. The recommendation doesn't come with a guarantee as they aren't onsite to inspect anything and are basing their recommendation on what you tell them. Depending on the relationship your tech has with Mimaki, you might be able to get some kind of consideration.

To be fair, it's an Epson head, but yeah, not a ton that can be done out of warranty. Not a terribly hard swap, but the parts are expensive. Done some board repairs and such, but I am far from an in-house Mimaki tech. If the head is shot, it'll blow the slider fuses to protect it and the driver board behind it. As for that weird bit coming out of the via, not sure what it is, looks like some kind of plastic.
