Material runs off the printer

Hi all....
Just recently i refitted my aging mutoh outdoor jr, with a new pump, capping station and 2 new heads. The initial fill of ink is done, the dampers are half full and everything seems to be ok. Just finished doing capping station adjustment, head rank input and in the process of doing head tilt verification.

The issue that im having is keeping the media on the printer....I enter diagnostics mode, load the media, as soon as it goes into paper initialization it spits the media out the back, therefore preventing me from doing any type of printing or adjustments....

Any ideas or input would be appreciated.

Thanks
Lou

Sounds like it. In the Diag mode, under EXAM, there is a sensor test where you can test the various sensors in the printer, I believe it is the menu it defaults to when you go into diagnostic mode. Try lifting the lever, and put it in the front paper sensor test mode, then slide some paper around and see if it tells you anything.. The tests are Xf paper and Xr paper for front and rear paper sensors respectively.

I have tried that, rear sensor is off but the front remains is constantly on. I have also tried to eliminate all source of light that might reflect on the front sensor.....but nothing. Any idea where I might be able to purchase a new front paper sensor.

Thanks for the reply

I had that problem too while doing diagnostics it is the front sensor who is clearly affected by light in the room.
Randya said to reduce the light in he room or put the cover over the machine which you usually keep upwards :) when you do test like this.
Also make sure you first put media far over the front of the machine so it can retract lets say 50 cm otherwise I had the problem too.
And for a try also load the media before you go into diagnostics with lever down.

Give it a try and let us know.

Something for Chorca's wiki............ ;-)

I just had a thought..... If I switched the 2 sensors around on the main board and feed the material from the front, when the material reaches the rear sensor ( wired in the front sensor socket on the main board) the material should stop. Even though the two sensor connectors are different color they are interchangeable. If you guys think that this has disaster written all over it.....let me know.

This is to confirm that the front paper sensor needs replacing.

So the sensor test in diagnostics says the XF sensor is ON constant?
Just cover it by hand and see if the display goes to OFF.
It is now evening and I only have a small light bulb in the room.
I just test this fucntion.
When the top cover is open it makes the sensor go to ON.
When I close the top/front cover and slide media over the sensor it changes status in the display.

i did the same test in diagnostics, when i place my hand over the sensor it does not change state, remains on constantly. next step is to remove the sensor and clean it, maybe put a meter on it , readings should fluctuate by waving my hand across it...if it dosnt then its time to replace the sensor.

cant believe it......I got the sensor to work...dipped the sensor in alcohol, used an air can to dry it off...... and BAMMMM!!!! sensor works like a charm. Hand on sensor on, hands off sensor off...and now for the actual test.
