Method: hollow core finishing edges.?

Hi all.
If necessary do you finsh the ends of hollow core aluminum comp sheets?
What's a good method?

depends on the thickness but edge caps work well

Yes , edge caps.
How about if the ends are odd shaped? Perhaps just vinyl as a taped-over finish?
I've done that a few times but I'm wondering about the longevity? When the air inside expands/contracts would it cause it to fail?
