So...just exactly where do those pounds go once they leave your waist line? I guess it really doesn't matter, just as long as they stay gone and don't come back again.

I've always been one to need a little visual motivation, and here's what I came up with to help me track my progress. Once you lose a pound or two, add that much weight (sand) in a milk jug. This one was just topped off this morning after two months of "conscious choices", and it appears it will hold just a fuzz under 15 pounds of sand. My rather ambitious goal has been 2 lbs. a week, and so far it's taken anywhere from seven to ten days to hit each target.

I lugged it around the shop for a few minutes and realized just how much that sucked (holding it in my hand, then hung over my shoulder and then around my neck). I can't wait to see what another 25 pounds will feel like.

Good for you. Ive also started my own journey such as yours, but decided to carry around a 12 pack. It tends to get lighter through the course of a day.

Sounds like a viable option. Perhaps I'll do the same when I hit my final goal.

Weight loss is truly difficult for most of us, but do you really wanna get down to 150lbs ?? How tall are you ??

In the last year and a half, I've lost about 40lbs., but it's mostly from watching portion sizes. I'm still eating just about anything, but slowly going down. Once I hit 185 or so, I'm stopping. I don't want to wither away to nothing. ))) I still want some meat on my bones. I'm slowly working out a little bit on my weights machine in the basement, but that's not really fun. Can't wait for good weather and start riding my bike again. Bicycle, not motorcycle.

Weight loss is truly difficult for most of us, but do you really wanna get down to 150lbs ?? How tall are you ??

I'm 5'4", medium build. I'm going to see where I'm at when I hit 160, and then go from there. Typical BMI charts put me somewhere around 140, but I'd lose too much muscle mass by that point.

after my back surgery (7 days)iam back in the hospital E.R. stomach hurts and iam throwing up brown liquid.
come to find out i got bleeding stomach ulcers. they go in cauterize em.......NOW FOR THE 20 POUND WEIGHT LOSS PLAN...........
7 DAYS of clear liquids..........basically soup broth in a bowl))))))) 7 days of that and 20 POUNDS GONE)))))))))))
i bet it will work with out the surgery)))))

They always say, if you wanna lose 30lbs of ugly fat...... cut your head off. :smile:

My mother-in-law, when alive, weighed in at around 325lbs and about 3' tall. She didn't have either of her legs [double amputee], so guess what she might've weighed had she still had those suckers attached.

I used to push her over on the sofa and she couldn't get back up. When she got outta hand, I'd tell her I was gonna take her to Atlantic City..... by-pass the casinos and put her out to sea as a buoy. That'd shut her up :rolleyes:


I once told her I was gonna pack both her ears with cement and stick a spike in each ear. Lift her up on a mechanism by the spikes and spank her and watch her spin around.​

Here's a shameless plug for a company that has really helped me get moving this winter. On average, I've been able to log anywhere from two to three miles a day...and sometimes as many as four miles.

The "sport" is called Nordic Ski Walking, and it burns up to 40% more calories than walking without poles since it involves some of the larger and normally unused upper body muscles like the pectorals, deltoids and triceps. http://www.skiwalking.com

By chance, I happened to see a set of poles in a client's car few months ago and when I asked her about them she gave me a brief education about Nordic Walking. Since then I've been absolutely hooked.

I almost wanted to smash the scale when it read 200 lbs.

Scales don't lie...that's both the bad and the good of it. Several years ago, I peaked out at 212...that was 33 pounds ago. I'm putting a photo collage together just as a reminder. Man...some of those old photos are really hard to look at.

On the flip side, I went out last week and bought new jeans. This week, it was new Fruit of the Looms. The old stuff is packed and ready to go out to Goodwill ASAP.

But on the "even better flip side"...I'll be down to my goal weight when my grandson celebrates his first birthday in June. Two weeks later, that same little boy will welcome a new baby brother into this world, and I'm going to be one happy 49 year-old grandpa knowing I'll be able to keep up with them both.

Dr. told me I was in "pretty good shape, for the shape I was in". I told him "round is a shape"


haha same here. i also have the healthiest heart he had seen in a really long time. the nurse initially took my heart rate and it was at a whopping 26 bpm, so she got another nurse to take it. same thing. i went through 2 more nurses until they called the doctor to take it. my 1 hour check-up turned into a damn near 8 hour visit. EKG, breathing machine on the treadmill, blood tests, etc.

turned out my heart was perfectly healthy.

That's crazy. The world's record is 26bpm set in 2014. A healthy person is between 60 and 80. Much below 50 and you're either a star athlete in tip top condition, asleep or getting ready to croak. That's way too slow for your body to function normally. You better get a second opinion or check in with the Guinness Book of World Records. :omg:

REALLY............... as someone who has been dead...i can tell you 26 bpm is no where near healthy. normal for the average person 50-60. stone cold marathon runners, 26 milers.......still at rest have 35-40bpm. i have been on medication and have seen mine go as low as 45 bpm........with bp 80/40 and still be function able. you do realize your blood pressure is sorta dictated by your heart beating rate? to maintain a working bp the heat must beat often or the pressure drops.... at 26 bpm......you had to have been 60/20 bp.....you also have to take into the function of the heart, at each beat, what is your "ejection factor." when you heart beats.....it contracts, that contraction sends blood to the arteries....this dictates your bp, with every beat. i know from my own that the most healthy persons ejection factor is no more then 55-60% of blood being pushed away fro the heart. total athletes can be as much as 70% but is rare. when i died, and they got me back, told the wife i wasnt gona make it cause my ejection factor was in the low 30% and they suspected major heart muscle damage took place when i died. WELL......IAM still here.3 years later. i had the "ejection factor checked a year after.........and iam pumping 52% and iam 69 years old)))) as for the heart muscle damage..........there was none. oh and that thing they put on your finger, check OXYGEN blood level, they think the machine is broke cause i hit 99% on it even now.........
so you must be an anomaly or there equipment was crazy....

to be fair, i had just woken up 5 minutes before (office was the next street over). after being awake for a couple hours it would be at 34-40. I did play soccer competitively for about 15 years. i was usually in more than 1 sport at a time too through 20 years. Our warm up for practice started with a 5 mile run.

i also am a TAI CHI practitioner. this includes deep chi gong meditation. one of the things we practice and learn........is the ability to slow the heart rate, and breathing to the point of taking one in breath & exhale in a minute. try it. breath in for 30 sec, and exhale for 30 sec........takes a while to get the rythem and adjust the body to accept this modality. (and you will get light headed)at the same time, we are slowing the the heart rate and bp. i know you seen the tai chi tapes, but te breathing and control of the body...all of this going on as we move into the different stance....is only learned when you spend time with a well trained instructor. i had to take a breathing exam at the va. some doctor put in my records i had emphysema. he probably got confused when i was telling my FATHER had it. guy was watching me breath.......sitting in the booth.....and he asked me if breathed this way all the time i said yes......so i gave him a tai chi breathing lesson))))

What a great idea with the milk jug. It's like when you take a break from the booze and have a beer you really see the effects.
I have seen a lot of people with the ski poles I keep thinking that there practising cross country , but I guess it makes sense to use your upper body too.

I keep seeing the ad on you tube for the ab belt seems like a good idea. I want to lose some pounds in my gut. Used to be super fit but a woman cooking for me for the last 12 years has changed that. Really it's my portions.

I have seen a lot of people with the ski poles I keep thinking that there practising cross country , but I guess it makes sense to use your upper body too.

I keep seeing the ad on you tube for the ab belt seems like a good idea. I want to lose some pounds in my gut. Used to be super fit but a woman cooking for me for the last 12 years has changed that. Really it's my portions.

The tandem poles really help expend the calories. Plus you're doing several thousand upper body reps for each walk you take. I've noticed a huge improvement in upper body flexibility, mobility and strength. My arms get tired walking without them.

One of the doctor guys on TV said, one day a week, don't eat anything, just water all day, said it's good for losing about five pounds a week. Your mileage, may vary.
