The article said he had sanity issues. Maybe the people in the painting spoke to him. He was just doing what he was told.

Gotta say I love when people ruin fine art. Or make new art, depending on how you view it. Like when that guy punched the hole in the Monet, and the guy who erased the De Kooning drawing. Cards Against Humanity once did a promo where they had a Picasso linocut print and they had people vote whether to donate it to a museum or to cut it up and send each donor a small piece. They voted to donate it but I think Picasso would've liked the idea of cutting it up

There are plenty of things I really dislike about the "Fine Art" business. And there is a lot more in the way of bad art than good. Still, property destruction is property destruction. Only two people have any right at all to deface or destroy a piece of art: the original artist or the person who bought the work. Anyone else is 100% free to say they hate the painting. But they need to keep their d***-beaters to themselves.
