Question Mimaki CJV150 extended warranty/care package?

I have had a Mimaki CJV-150 printer for 2 years now and its warranty is about to expire. I can get a new care package through the manufacturer/supplier however that is really expensive per year. Do other companies that sell these printers offer extended warranties?

And note that many service contracts don’t cover printheads. The Service contract for My HP FB550 would cost me about $4k per year and doesn’t cover any printheads. It only covers parts and labor for the rest of the machine. The most expensive part I could find for it is a power supply that cost about $3000 so the contract is pretty overpriced unless several things went wrong in one year. But my dad used to say that extended warranties are the same as insurance and that having insurance is you gambling that you were going to have a problem I needed and the insurance company is gambling that you were not going to have a problem and it won’t cost them anything.

Purchasing extended warranties can be a difficult decision. When we started out with our first printer we opted to extend the warranty for the 2nd year. As we added printers it didn't make sense to spend all that extra money on extended warranties as the likelihood of incurring repair costs in excess of what all the extended warranties would cost was in my opinion not likely. At some point it makes sense to self insure and simply pay as you go for repairs. With proper PM, we find that failures are rare. With one older printer it may make sense provided you get bumper to bumper coverage. If you do opt for an extended warranty, make sure it covers your printhead and make certain you get a printhead replacement during the extended warranty period to make it worthwhile.

Extended warranties are big money makers and are rarely a good deal for the end user. If you absolutely can't/won't turn a wrench however, spring for it and read the fine print.

Thanks for the responses. The gold package does cover on all parts including the printhead which is about £2000 alone. But they are asking for nearly £2000 a year including VAT for this warranty. The silver package covers labour and parts charged at 25% discount with slightly less call-out priority to the gold members. This is nearly £1000 inc VAT.

My printer has the white and metallic cartridges and recently the tubes which allow the solvent solution to flow into the cap have got blocked. I've had an engineer fix this but I think this may be a recurring problem every 18 months or so because we have to turn the printer off some nights due to working at a residential property. This basically means sometimes it misses one of its cleaning cycles, so a small amount of ink sometimes sits in the tube and builds up slowly over the course of 1-2 years which allows this blockage to happen, even though I clean and maintain the printer to the best I can. This is the only reason I've considered a warranty but then again, it doesn't seem like a difficult fix if i have the parts. Maybe it's something I can learn to do myself.
