Mimaki CJV30-130 Only Printing Black

Hi All,

I have a 5 year old CJV30-130 that was left for 5 days without printing anything.

The routine clean cycle was left to do its job as always, however when I came back to use the printer it only printed black.

I have done a Hard Clean, Nozzle Wash, Custody Wash, Ink Refill numerous times and still only black would print.

Today I replaced the capping station as it hadn't had a new one in 5 years, this didn't rectify the problem at all.

I have looked at the Dampers for the different colours and it seems like the print head isn't drawing any ink for the Cyan Magenta and Yellow.

From reading this forum I have figured out that the machine may require a manual Ink Draw.

Does this sound correct?

If so, I cannot figure out how to do the Manual Ink Draw and cannot get a Mimaki service engineer out for 3 weeks.

Please Help

Thanks Karl

When you say it will "Only print black" do you mean that nothing else prints at all anymore?
Can you upload a picture of the test print...

If it's the case that the other colors have dropped out a bit and don't come back after cleaning, it's either the cap top or pump or the tubes in-between.
When you swapped the cap top, did you also swap the little blue plug that stops the 3rd nipple?

Making America great, one sign at a time.
only print black

it sounds like the dampers are done. you need to see if you can siphon ink out of them before the print head.
five years = dried ink.

good luck

To prime the heads manually (and to test the seal between Cap and Head) you'll want to use a large syringe (40ml or more) to suck on one of the lines that go to the Cap.

Remove the metal cover in front of the Capping Station and then you will see the Pump and the two lines that go from it to the Cap. Disconnect just one of the lines (connected with a small metal stint) and connect your syringe to the end that goes to the Cap. Make sure to pinch off the line that remains connected (hemostat, pliers or similar) and then pull with the syringe until you get a good amount of of ink in the syringe - if you pull only air then the Cap is not sealing against the surface of the head and further investigation is needed. In cases like this I'll usually cut a small flat piece of dibond that I can place on the cap while pulling with the syringe to test the seal of the cap.

Did you replace the little blue plug when you installed your new Cap? There are three outlets on the Cap but only two are used.

Oh, forgot to mention:

Because this is a CJV you'll need to open all the Cartridge valves before pulling with the syringe - #TEST => CARTRIDGE TEST => CARTRIDGE VALVE. Use the arrow keys to change the "." To "o" on all channels.
