Need Help Mimaki CJV30 - Banding

Hi Everyone

I have had my Mimaki CJV30-160 for the past 5 years.
Recently I have experienced "banding" lines. All the nozzles are firing perfectly. Ive tried feedcomp values from -25 up to +25 and settled on +5.
Played around with heat settings, also not a significant improvement.
Tried different profiles... Also no luck from 8 pass up to 16 pass has lines in them.
The only profile that is perfect is the profiles that print uni directionally... Or if I deselect "fast print".
Colours that are the worst is Orange, Dark Blue & brown. Black & yellow is perfect.
These issues are on layflat & vinyl. PVC on the other hand is perfect even on 6 pass.

On my mimaki cjv150 I had to set random values on head alignment for every color. I played around for a whole day (8h) but managed to get perfect print in the end. It was absolutely no logic in the settings. This was the case with the cutter as well, but once everything was up and running I could print and cut sheets over 120" (3 meter) containing over 1000 shapes with +-1mm accuracy

Hi Alan.

With regards to banding my Solution to the problem was to update the firmware on the printer to Version 3.20 ( I use the Cjv30BS ). The reason you want to update is so you can enable the MAPS function available on newer Mimakis but wasn't enabled on older versions. The MAPS function will help with the banding greatly.

The basic function of how to enable/ configure maps is here : https://mimaki.com/archives/034/JV33-260BS_Supplement_D202571_V1.0.pdf
To Download the Update : https://mimaki.com/download/driver/entry-285810.html
A better explanation of what MAPS is : https://store.apcink.com/blog/maps-antibanding-technology-not-just-for-new-mimakis/

I noticed in South Africa the techs do not offer the firmware update but maybe you can talk to your tech to do it for you. It will really help you printer

Hi Alan,
I have a 1 year old mimaki cjv 150 model and I had exactly the same problem.
The tech guy came out to me yesterday and improved it but it’s still faintly there for the similar colours you are experiencing, for me it’s dark navy blue, orange and green. And again if I do it in uni directional print it’s almost non existent.
The tech guy told me there are a few colours that you can’t print perfectly and that’s just how it is.

My particular banding was worse on polo print gloss adhesive vinyl, and I have been told that perhaps using a 3M profile might sort the problem out completely.

Be interested to know if you solved your problem.

Hi Lindani,

I also had the same problem with my Mimaki cjv 150.
My machine is only 1 year old, would it still need a firmware update??

thanks,

Paul
