Mimaki JFX 200 UV Flatbed

We just installed a JFX 200 (4x8 UV flatbed printer) in our Denver Colorado location. If you would like to see it print or want some samples done, give us a call at 800-328-1306. We have had it running for a couple of days now and the quality is very impressive for a printer at 78K.

Congratulation! Would love to see some photos of your machine setup. We are looking into one, but there's no demo locally here in Vancouver, the other thing I worry is the part supply, I know some vendor in my area would have lots of roll to roll mimaki machine part, but this flat bed is all new....the worse thing is to have it down with no parts to change for a couple of days to weeks.

The price is impressive, how is training? Anything specifically need to be train if one never used a flat bed or if different from say an Oce?
Other than the machine cost, what else do you need to prep before the install? such as power, vacuum etc. Do they have a pre-install guide line to follow and would you mind sharing it!

Good machine, have fun with it!

Congrats..

We have been contemplating one as well. What thickness will it print and how is the speed. How many 4x8 sheets can you print per hour at high quality. Last but not least what is you ink cost per sq. ft?

Thanks and Congrats!

Training

We get trained today by the Mimaki tech flown in for the install. He spent a couple days setting it up and had no problem with us looking over his shoulder. The printer uses Ricoh heads which they keep I stock, along with other service parts. We had an issue with one of the pumps during set up, had one next day from Mimaki. I'll check on speeds and ink costs later today.

PS, I'm a Mimaki dealer, not an end user. This is our demo printer, just so you know.

Ya, I realized you are a dealer after I post.
But doesn't matter, tell me about the machine, some photos, video post etc, ink cost, color sample, set up, accessories...we want to know the performance of this machine!

Mimaki JFX200

Ink costs is .20 a square per Mimaki
The new Rasterlink 6 software is a vast improvement on level 5, very easy to use.
The MAPS print function is a nice feature, this process eliminates banding as it has no defined edge.
So far the inks seem to stick well to most common boards, coro, stinger, MDO
Need to get some plex and metals in for testing.

More to follow.

post some close up photos on print if you could.
Would love to see some print quality on metal, acrylic and plywood if you will do so.
Do you have white and clear ink? How do they perform?

Did you chose the Mimaki JFX200?

Hi, we are in the market for a true flat bed. We were looking at CET Q5 and the Oce460GT, leaning towards Oce. Then we just stumbled upon the true flat bed Mimaki, not knowing it exisited. Did ya chose it? Or another? Have any input?
Thanks much for your time

don't have the cash for it yet.
Depending on which OCE or CET model you are getting, most like your productivity (4x8 sheet per hour) will be higher than the Mimaki one.
The Mimaki is rated at 8sheet CMYK and 4sheet CMYK+CL+WH. Being said, if your configuration is CMYK+CL+WH, it is at 4sheets/hr only even you are only printing CMYK without Clear or White.

The other advantage on the Mimaki is the LED curing system, it is not hot so you can print 020 polystyrene without any problem. I think CET has LED curing system now too.

Do not own any of these machine, but have been looking extensively into them.

I think you should post it on the forum for the benefit of discussion and anyone reading in the future.

That way, at least other owners can agree or disagree.

To be honest it sounds even worse if you don't post it.

1 caution if you are about to buy the JFX200

This machine is not a high production device but the quality is superb! One caution to consider is the relatively short life of the inks as they come off the shelf. I am not talking about the distributor's shelf but the manufacturer's. The typical expiration date is about 6-7 months.
It is pretty grievous to throw away nearly full bottles of ink or have the chip stop the printer after the 1 month "grace period" when the bottle is still full.

If you are doing high quality work opposed to high volume this should be in your expectation. As a dual cmyk device it is quicker and more production oriented but if you plan to use white (and who wouldn't?) it is too slow for high production.

Be sure not to buy a second set of inks for the shelf until you determine your consumption rate or you may find yourself discarding ink that has never been in the machine.

I just spoke with Mimaki regarding the issue and now understand they are getting some push back about this.

This is my assessment after 1 year of use: Great printer (you wont' find better)-really poor ink shelf life.

At my place we are using 150, but thinking to move to the 100 because seems like the 100 stick better to metal tins.
Still debating that decision thought.

I saw the new Mimaki at a local trade show back in the summer. I was very impressed with the print quality and especially the price, under 80k installed with RIP. I was told these new Mimaki's have the latest Gen5 heads with stainless steel plates that are supposedly much more durable than the previous designs.

The Mimaki 200 has a big brother also, the 500 and it's way faster and is a little under 7' x 10' I believe. They have my attention but I think corporate is going to send me a Vutek 3m hybrid sometime next year.
