Mimaki? Summa? Flexi? not sure who the culprit is here

It's really a non issue but I am curious what others think the problem is.

You ever get a small order? I mean small, lets say 1" x 4" decal and they only need 8. OK you take it, charge them setup and make sure it is profitable.

The Mimaki printed 10 vertical up a 54" vinyl. pretty easy. problem is it only printed 2 registration marks. One at the start and one at the far end. The graphic is so small that it couldn't print another set. I didn't think much of it and let it sit and laminated it today and put it in the Summa thinking it only needs these 2 marks I guess. Summa is looking for a second mark on the low side, just as I suspected, so the graphic is garbage and we start again only this time I will print 20 to get the second set of registration marks.

I know it is not an issue except to wonder which piece of equipment is causing the problem? Flexi? Mimaki or Summa?

what you think?

Sounds like a "set up"problem.

I usually set up my graphics in Illustrator, draw a bounding box {select bounding box and create registration marks.} around ALL the artwork, then select All and send to the plotter.
The bounding box creates the corner targets you need to register. The bounding box won't plot.

I've run into that as well with our Summa and Flexi. Flexi will willingly only print 1 row of reg marks but the Summa needs at minimum 2 rows (at least 4 marks). The only solution is to add anything, even just a single dot above the artwork to get to at least about 3" so at least 2 rows of marks print.

agree, i just wanted to rush it through. i knew it wouldn't cut it but had to try and see lol...so it is Flexi's fault as it should know that Summa needs 4 marks minimum

I've never gotten just one set of marks (2) with any of my prints, but if the item I am contour cutting is 1" range then it will not work properly. Its like it has a minimum distance between the marks, it prints the second row (4 total marks) at that minimum distance and then when it cuts, the cut is distorted. I just make sure that the layout is at least two inches or so.
