Mimaki ucjv300 or Roland LG-640?

I'll throw my hat in for the UCJV300 and I do tech support almost daily on the thing. Can also get them for a killer deal on the used market. Short of frame damage or being left out in the sun, they're easy to revive compared to most printers I've worked on.

Which printer is more reliable.. Mimaki ucjv300 or Roland lg640..
Wow, interesting responses to this question. I'm still running 3 x SP-300V and 2 x VS-300i Rolands as well as a UCJV300-75 and my next buy will be another UV for which I'll be going back to Roland. The Mimaki nearly saw me into an early grave - buggy RIP, buggy firmware, some challenging mechanical features and prone to some really challenging habitswhen it chooses. I usually describe the Rolands as quiet dependable elegance with the UCJV300 a temperamental hot rod which doesn't really go that fast anyway and prone to making life challenging. Interesting the diversity of experiences, I wonder how much support impacts on peoples perceived experiences.

Definitely had a lot better luck after updating the firmware on my UCJV300. Mimaki doesn't make it easy without their software tool (which can be found around here pretty readily). Luck is always a factor in printers as well.

Thanks for the responses...still trying to make a decision...I've been a Mimaki user for a long time and trying to make the leap to Roland's UV Lg640 but still not too convinced yet..

The Roland demos out here have been great for me. People show me the 'amazing new' stickers that their dealer prints out to give away and I shrug and point to my 2016 era UCJV300 and tell them I can already do them.

We recently added a UCJV330 Mimaki. We have a Roland XR640 which has been reliable for about 10 years. The Mimaki has been fast and excellent quality. We had a little learning curve with the new RIP software - none of us had used Rasterlink before. The machine does like to sleep and is slow getting ready to print (waking up, heating up). But if you wake it up before starting Rasterlink or sending the job to or from Rasterlink, then it is fast. The volume of work we put it through the last two months was significant and we think this was a great addition for us. Being UV, it does have some limitations - not stretchable for full wraps, not sure it is a good choice for perforated window film. But for decals, truck lettering/logos, etc., it really expands production. My favorite thing is going right to lamination after print - allows us to respond quickly to big jobs. The 330 is faster than the 300. That said, the prices on the 300 make that a bargain even new. Our sales rep sells both Roland and Mimaki and his advice right now has been that Roland hasn't made any leaps forward in a while - he keeps hoping they will with each new release. Hopefully Roland does something with their next release, but their current offerings do not out perform our XR-640 and that has a bit of age on it. My 2 cents, right now is go with the Mimaki, but then that is what we just did.

Yeah, default sleep time of 30 minutes is silly, we set ours to 180 minutes. Not like it has a heater, so idle power is minimal. Go to Menu>Machine Setup> should be first option. Another nice perk is aftermarket ink support as well as the 1L bottle system. So much waste ink leftover in cartridge bags, nice to use ALL your ink. And you can reuse the bottles for waste ink disposal.
