Mounting Acrylic Letters on Vinyl Covered panel?

We have a small exterior sign to do about 2x3.
1/2" PVC background with cut out acrylic letters.
Instead of painting the PVC we were thinking about sheeting it with vinyl.
The small acrylic letters (1"-3") will be mounted using VHB.
Will that work on a panel covered with vinyl or do we need to paint?

I would suggest not using acrylic outdoors as it expands and contracts. The letters could crack if you get some warm weather roll through while the air is still cold (spring/fall time).

As far as the PVC panel, if you wrap the vinyl around the back and use an edge sealer on the edge, it should hold. the VHB will never let the letters go from the vinyl so you're safe there.

Not all VHB tapes are recommended for vinyl. Vinyl contains plasticizer which can negatively affect the adhesion of VHB tape.

The only VHB tapes recommended for direct use on vinyl are: 4941, 4945 and 4991. Also, on tapes 4618, 4622 and 4624, the liner side of the tape is plasticizer resistant, so technically those could be used as long as you adhere the liner side on the vinyl and the opposite side on the acrylic.

As long as the vinyl has good adhesion this should work just fine.. !

Not necessarily.

Part of the benefit of the VHB tape is it allows for the expansion between surfaces. The letters won't just crack due to weather.

Sure it will work like Moze said use the right vhb.
Also you could cut the vinyl and weed it in reverse and there is your registration for the letters.

Really..All the years I have been using acrylic outdoors and it's the wrong material ?
