Moving objects in Coreldraw while holding CTRL?

I can hold CTRL and move font in the vertical or horizontal plane and if I have an object that consist of only one item I can do it. But if I have an item that is grouped I can't. When I hold CTRL and then grab with my mouse it ungroups it and only moves one part. What is the secret to doing this. I have seen it done before but can't seem to figure it out.

click and hold on the group first then hold control to move

That worked. I guess I wasn't patient enough. It will take some getting used to.
