Mutoh 1604 "Dragging" Noise

Sometimes when I'm printing the machine sounds like the carriage is slightly hitting the pinch rollers and makes a fast dragging or rubbing noise. This doesn't happen a lot, and goes away somewhat quickly when it starts, but I can't stand it. Anyone else have this happen?

Ya... i've noticed it too. Never found what was causing it but it goes away and doesn't affect the print. I guess if it ain't broke.. don't fix it.

The only time I hear dragging on the pinch rolls is while they are up and I am manually moving the head. It makes a clicking noise as it moves over the rollers.

I was starting to wonder if it's an indication of something about to fail that might be preventable. I also didn't know if it was at all common or just my machine. Thanks for the feedback!

Take the top cover off and watch it print a couple rows.. you may see the inkline strap bunching up and then un-bunching... it sounds very clunky like it is hitting something.

try to clean your y-rail and have it lubricated with white grease

Thanks! I saw you post this for someone else the other day and grabbed it. I just need to go get the right grease.
